Care Instructions

Here is a boiled-down list of care instructions for everything I sell!

Cotton Items

  • 85% recycled cotton, 15% polyester
  • Machine wash cold, gentle cycle & preferred inside a garment bag or pillowcase 
  • Dry flat preferred
  • Tumble dry no heat or on the lowest heat setting
  • Cotton items include:
    • Swiffer dust covers
    • Dish cloths & wash cloths
    • Face scrubbies
    • Most bags (market and drawstring bags; water bottle slings)
    • Glasses pouches
    • Coasters
    • Soap cozies
    • Mug cozies

Acrylic Items

  • 100% acrylic
  • Machine wash cold, gentle cycle & preferred inside a garment bag or pillowcase
  • Dry flat preferred
  • Tumble dry no heat or on the lowest heat setting
  • Acrylic items include:
    • Produce bags
    • Headbands made in solid colors
    • Infinity scarves
    • Hats for cats
    • Dish scrubbies

Wool items

  • 22% wool, 78% acrylic
  • Machine wash cold, gentle cycle & preferred inside a garment bag or pillowcase
  • Dry flat (do not tumble dry)
  • Wool items include:
    • Cuffed beanies
    • Messy bun hats
    • Headbands made in ombre colors

Specialty Items

  • Toy mice for cats should be spot cleaned if necessary and not run through the washing machine
    • body is 85% recycled cotton, 15% polyester
    • stuffing is 100% acrylic
    • catnip is an optional but popular add-on
    • always supervise your cat while playing with a stuffed toy! The mice are sturdy, but heavy clawing/biting may cause them to rip open and spill their stuffing contents.
  • All plushies should be spot cleaned if necessary and not run through the washing machine
    • bodies are made of varying yarn blends: primarily 80% cotton/20% acrylic or 100% acrylic
    • stuffing is either 100% polyester fiberfill, or a combination of cotton and polyester yarn scraps
    • eyes are plastic
    • NOTE ABOUT SAFETY EYES: they can be a choking hazard for children under 4 and for pets. All plushies with hard plastic eyes should never be given unattended to children under 4 years of age or to pets. These items are intended for decoration and gentle play only - not for anyone who might chew/suck on a toy heavily.

This is my inaugural Kaity's Corner post! If you're not sure what that means, check out my previous post  on the topic. A customer recently asked if he could commission a scarf to look like Grusha's scarf from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. A quick Google search told me that yes, I can absolutely make that! I was really excited for the opportunity both to get a completely custom order and to write a pattern. It's been a while since I flexed my writing muscles (except to tweak a few steps in already-written patterns), so to start the year on a more creative foot felt awesome! It's time for a pivot.

Disclaimer: I had to work really, really hard to write this post without a lot of self-pity. Some may have bled through anyway. I mostly apologize if it did. When I re-launched my business as Charm and Strange Crochet in 2022, my head was buzzing with business advice from a highly successful crochet business owner. Pam Grice of Crochetpreneur went viral overnight back in 2013 and had to hire dozens of crocheters to help her get her orders out. Now she makes high-six figures teaching people how to be successful in their own crochet businesses, whether they focus on selling products like I do or on writing patterns. So she MUST be right. New product alert: Cat plushies!

I have another cat-themed release scheduled for October 1st at the South Mitten's Kittens Rescue craft fair ! Introducing... CAT HEAD PLUSHIES!!! Aren't these just too cute? I am SO obsessed with these! Every time I finish one, I show my husband and we both squeal in our "it's-a-cute-kitty" voices. Cat head plushies will be debuting at the SMKR craft fair in Milford, MI on October 1st, but don't fret - these will be added to my permanent collection! As soon as I made one of them, I started having visions of creating custom cat heads based on customer photos. Wouldn't that be a lovely way to honor the memory of a beloved lost cat, or commemorate the adoption of a new one? Keep an eye out on my Etsy shop , social media , and here on the blog for the online release of cat heads! Cat head plushies will retail for $25 in person.
